If you've never had a physiotherapy home visit before, you might be wondering what to expect. The good news is that it's simpler than most people imagine — and for many patients, it turns out to be far more convenient and effective than attending a clinic.
Once you've booked, I'll confirm your appointment time and address. There's nothing special you need to prepare — just a clear space where you can sit, stand, and lie down comfortably. Your living room or bedroom works perfectly. Wear comfortable, loose clothing appropriate for the area being treated.
Your first session begins with a detailed assessment. I'll ask about your symptoms, how they started, what makes them better or worse, and how they're affecting your daily life. I'll then carry out a physical examination — testing your movement, strength, and specific clinical tests relevant to your condition. This takes around 20–30 minutes and forms the foundation of your treatment plan.
After the assessment, treatment begins in the same session. Depending on your condition, this might include manual therapy (joint mobilisation, soft tissue release), therapeutic exercises, movement re-education, or a combination of these. You'll leave your first session with a clear diagnosis, an explanation of what's causing your symptoms, and a treatment plan.
At the end of your session, I'll give you a personalised home exercise programme — specific to your condition and your goals. I'll demonstrate each exercise and make sure you're confident doing them correctly before I leave. These exercises are designed to continue your progress between sessions.
A physiotherapy home visit is a straightforward, effective, and convenient way to get the treatment you need without the hassle of travelling to a clinic. If you have any questions before booking, feel free to get in touch.
